NATURAL DYEING AND WEAVING IN LUANG PHABANG, LAOS
On this long weekend, we will have the opportunity to soak in the serene beauty of Luang Phabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and visit weaving villages in Luang Phabang province whose weavers continue to preserve centuries old natural dye recipes and traditional weaving techniques to produce textiles for the market. The former royal capital abounds with textile galleries, silversmiths, and other handicraft outlets. Participants can also visit the night market held in front of the National Museum, the former royal palace, and the renovated hilltribe market. Our accommodations will be at the Maison Souvannaphoum, the previous residence of Prince Souvanna Phouma. We will be dining at the best restaurants in the city, serving French, royal Lao, and fusion cuisine. Linda McIntosh, a Lao textile researcher, will lead this trip. Linda is completing a PhD in Lao textiles and has curated exhibitions on Tai textiles, including an exhibition on Lao costume that she co-curated at the National Museum of Luang Phabang in late 2005. She has also worked as a handicraft consultant in Laos, traveling to remote areas to research and help develop handicrafts such as weaving as alternative income generators.

On arrival in the Luang Phabang, you will meet our local guide and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for a self-guided tour of the temples and environs or shopping.Dinner at 3 Nagas restaurant. |

After breakfast, we will visit BanXieng Lekfor demonstrations of traditional Lao weaving and natural dyeing and meet Joanna Smith and/or Veomanee Duangdara of OckPopTok Gallery, ending the visit at their gallery.
Lunch at Tamnak Lao Restaurant. The afternoon is at your leisure for a self-guided tour of the town or shopping.

After breakfast, full day we go to visit Ban Nayang Tai, a Tai Lue weaving village specializing in handspun cotton and natural dyeing. The basketry and architecture of this village is also very interesting. Picnic Lunch.

After breakfast, free at your leisure until you will be transferred to Luang Phabang Airport for your onward flight.

Cost: 25,000 Baht for member and 26,000 Baht for non-members, excluding Single room is an additional 4500 Baht.
Minimum: 16 guests and Maximum: 20 guests.
