Linda S. McIntosh
10:30am - 12:30pm
Location: 4th Floor Lecture Room, Siam Society
131 Soi Asoke (21), Sukhumvit Rd
Bangkok
The Thai Textile Society in collaboration with the Siam Society is pleased
to present a lecture on textiles of the Tai peoples found in the Textile
Collection of Tilleke & Gibbins International. Textiles from the Tai
speaking peoples compose over half of the Collections 1600+ examples of
hand-woven art from primarily mainland Southeast Asia. The firms
collection grew from the idea to decorate the offices with a traditional art
form when the firm relocated to its present location on Soi Ton Son. As the
Collection acquired more textiles, its mission expanded to conserve this art
form for present and future generations by following professional museum
guidelines to care for the textiles and allowing other institutions to use
examples from the Collection in exhibitions and publications.
Textile expert Linda McIntosh is presently writing a book on the law firms
textile collection and will share some her research in this lecture. She
will discuss color schemes and common motifs shared among the Tai peoples. Problems in the identification of some of the textiles will also be
addressed. The highlight of the lecture will be the presentation of unusual
Tai textiles high resolution digital photos.
