
Professor Sathirakorn Pongpanich will be hosting the Thai Textile Society Collector’s Corner at his suite of rooms near the Chao Phraya River. Featured will be a number of extraordinary antique Asian textiles, including antique silks, a Thai ceremonial robe, a Pattani silk and gold hip-cloth, Indian pha-nung made for the Thai court, shoulder cloths and dresses from Palembang, tampan ceremonial cloths from Sumatra, Balinese songket, a Chinese yee ancestral ritual jacket, Cambodian ikats and Muslim coffin covers, Laotian chong kaben, and Sumba sarongs and hip cloths among many others.
Professor Pongpanich has concentrated on putting together an eclectic collection of unique and fascinating pieces from many areas of the world. As a lifetime member and president of the Textile Society, he is committed to sharing his interest with others.
Included will be a brief tour of Professor Pongpanich’s home, furnished with European and Asian antiques, art and ethnic artifacts and which was featured in Baan Lae Suan Magazine (House and Garden Magazine). Attendance will be limited to 12 people and based on a “first come-first-serve” basis; no photographs will be permitted.
