ART QUILTS “PUTTING IT TOGETHER”
Wednesday, April 21, 2010
Members of the Thai Textile Society have the opportunity to learn about the art of quilting and examine closely the work that has gone into the pieces on exhibit, as well as other ones that will be brought for this occasion. A variety of quilting styles will be represented, from traditional, to modern, to art. Art quilter, Marjolein Bastiaans, whose work is on display, will explain her work, from where she gets her inspiration, and the different techniques she that she applies. Marjolein works mainly in cotton, sometimes incorporating dyeing and printing into her work.
Originally from the Netherlands, Marjolein has lived all over the world, and her work reflects the many cultures she has encountered. She had previously exhibited her work in Austria, Bolivia and Thailand. The current exhibition represents her work during the past seven years that she has lived in Thailand.
“Putting Pieces Together” will be at the Nielsen Hays Library from 1–29 April 2010. The opening reception is on April 1.
Linda Kubota-Barnes, member of the quilting group in Thailand, will give an introduction with the history and points of interest of quilting.
