Special Curator's Walk
Songs of Memory — Follow-up Films
Date: Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Time: 10.00 a.m.
Victoria Vorreiter is delighted to return to the Thai Textile Society as a follow-up to her curator’s walk at the Songs of Memory exhibition at the James H.W. Thompson Foundation Library with two short films.
The first, a preview to her documentary “The Music of the Golden Triangle,” is a ten-minute work that provides a glimpse at the environment that shapes the tribal peoples’ worldview, the diversity of groups, their spiritual life and musical heritage — all the while highlighting the extraordinary variety of traditional clothing and adornments they wear.
The second film of approximately thirty minutes documents the different stages and styles of clothing fabrication, from picking the cotton to weaving the wedding trousseau, employed by different tribal peoples found in Laos, China, Myanmar, and Thailand.
