"The Jim Thompson Art Center cordially invites you to join a Lecture: The growth of Isan textiles; from local to macro economy by Ajarn Suriya Samuthakupta, an expert on Isan culture and textiles, and Dr. Pandit Chanrochanakit, from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Ramkhamhaeng University. The lecture will be held on Sunday, November 2nd, 2008, at 1:00pm - 3:00pm, at William Warren Library, 4th floor, Henry B. Thompson Building, 6 Soi Kasemsan 2 Rama1 Rd., Wangmai, Patumwan.
The lecture will explain the weaving culture of Thailand’s northeastern region, Isan, and its role in local society. Isan’s textile production has changed from traditional, small-scale weaving within the community, to today’s industrial-scale activity. The lecture will examine how this change has affected local society.
